Sailor GMDSS Simulator.rar

Sailor GMDSS Simulator.rar

Sailor GMDSS Simulator.rar is a file that contains a program for training mariners in the use of GMDSS equipment and procedures. GMDSS stands for Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, which is a set of international rules and standards for ensuring the safety of life at sea through radio communication and alerting systems. The Sailor GMDSS Simulator program is designed to simulate the typical ship's GMDSS radio equipment based on the Skanti-1000 series, and to provide documentation on GMDSS theory based on the IMO GMDSS Handbook. The program also includes an assessment module to test the student's knowledge and skills.

Features of the Sailor GMDSS Simulator program

The Sailor GMDSS Simulator program has the following features:

  • It models the power supply unit, VHF radio station, MF/HF transceiver, watch receiver, NAVTEX receiver, radio TELEX modem, INMARSAT-C, INMARSAT-B, AIS, SART, EPIRB, alarm box, and portable VHF equipment.

  • It allows the student to operate the equipment from the main or reserve batteries, and to set the ship's position and select the coast stations on a chart.

  • It enables the student to make DSC calls, conduct RT and NBDP traffic, receive MSI via SafetyNET, NAVTEX and HF NBDP, and perform emergency procedures in case of distress or false alert.

  • It supports three modes of operation: individual work on the simulator to study the equipment, individual work with software responses to calls, and network mode with communication between stations or circular broadcasting for all stations.

  • It provides the instructor with the ability to create scripts with ship's position, equipment set-up and typical tasks, and to transfer them to the student stations. The instructor can also monitor the student dialogues and evaluate their performance.

How to install and run the Sailor GMDSS Simulator program

The Sailor GMDSS Simulator program is compatible with Windows XP operating system. However, it can also be run on Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 using a virtual machine software such as Oracle VM VirtualBox. The following steps describe how to install and run the program using VirtualBox:

  • Download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox from [here].

  • Download the XP Mode from Microsoft from [here]. This is a file named WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe that contains a virtual hard drive with Windows XP installed.

  • Download and install 7-Zip from [here]. This is a file compression and extraction software that can open the XP Mode file.

  • Right-click on the XP Mode file and select 7-Zip > Extract Here. This will create a folder named Windows XP Mode with several files inside.

  • Open the folder Windows XP Mode and find a file named VirtualXPVHD. Rename this file to VirtualXPVHD.vhd. This is the virtual hard drive file that contains Windows XP.

  • Open Oracle VM VirtualBox and click on New. Enter a name for the virtual machine (such as XP Mode), select Microsoft Windows as the type and Windows XP (32-bit) as the version. Click on Next.

  • Select the amount of memory (RAM) to allocate for the virtual machine. The recommended size is 512 MB. Click on Next.

  • Select Use an existing virtual hard disk file as the hard disk option. Click on the folder icon next to the drop-down menu and browse to the location of the VirtualXPVHD.vhd file. Select it and click on Open. Click on Create.

  • The virtual machine is now created. To start it, select it from the list and click on Start.

  • The first time you run the virtual machine, you will see a Windows XP setup screen. Follow the instructions to complete the setup. You will need to accept the license agreement, enter a password for the administrator account, set the date and time, etc.

  • Once the setup is done, you will see the Windows XP desktop. You can now install and run the Sailor GMDSS Simulator program on the virtual machine. To do so, you will need to copy the Sailor GMDSS Simulator.rar file from your host computer to the virtual machine. You can use a USB flash drive, a shared folder, or a network connection to transfer the file.

  • After you have copied the file, you will need to extract it using 7-Zip or another software that can open RAR files. You will get a folder named Sailor GMDSS Simulator with several files inside.

  • Open the folder Sailor GMDSS Simulator and double-click on the file named Sailor.exe. This will launch the program. You can choose the language, the mode of operation, and the station number from the menu. You can also access the documentation and the assessment module from the menu.
